Taking care of your physical health can help you feel and look your best. It's important for your own wellbeing, as well as that of any children you are either raising now or might have in the future. Healthy Eating
When time, money, lack of ideas, and/or boredom get in the way, it is sometimes hard to keep up with healthy eating. Here are some ideas and resources you may want to consider trying out or at least getting inspired by:

Learn to shop and cook healthy on a budget

Save time with meal planning, food prepping, and batch cooking

Buy locally grown and raised food at your local farmer's market, store or restaurant

Join or start a local Community Garden

Try out some heart-healthy new recipes inspired by Latino and African American style cooking!

Find free food at a local food pantry and see if you qualify for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and/or the Connecticut WIC program.
Healthy Weight
Being at a healthy weight is good for you all around! It's good for your joints, organs, mental health, and energy levels, to name a few. It is also better for people who would like to or could become pregnant, as women who are overweight or obese are at higher risk of pregnancy complications. The best way to stay or get to a healthy weight is through a combination of healthy eating and active living. Here are some ideas and resources for you to consider or at least get inspired by on your active living journey:

Find a workout partner!

Be active for at least 30 minutes every day (even if it is in 10 minute spurts: it still counts!)

Go for a brisk hike or jog.

Sign up for a walking or running race event and train for it!

Explore our State Parks!

Ride a bike, play tennis, swim, or find a group exercise class you enjoy!

Mow the lawn or do other active gardening.

Take breaks from work. Try taking a 10 minute brisk walk 3 times during the day.

Get up and stretch at least every hour while sitting at a desk, or consider setting up your workspace to include a standing desk arrangement.

Get moving and have fun! Anything that gets your heart pumping is good for you!
